Emma Lusena AshEmma Lusena Ash is a Berlin-based dancer with Italian, German, and English origin. She co-founded the experimental dance collective DISTANT CASUALS and has developed a unique style that blends physical with conceptual work. Trained at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance), Emma has performed in various productions across Europe.

In 2024, she collaborated on a piece with Heinz Peter Knes, DISTANT CASUALS, and Ricardo Domeneck, presented at Stations Zone in Berlin. She also appeared in “Aus dem Auge, in den Sinn” at Tanztage Potsdam and in Romeo Castellucci’s “Tannhäuser” at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. With DISTANT CASUALS, Emma performed “DISTANT CASUALS by DISTANT CASUALS” at TanzTangente, Berlin, and Taneçno Dance Festival, Slovakia.

Her solo and collaborative work explores themes of identity and embodiment. In 2023, Emma created “Let X=X (Boob Solo),” performed at festivals in Salzburg and Berlin, as well as “One Minus One Resembles Zero,” a DISTANT CASUALS production. Her video work includes “Aigner Park” (2022) and “Brother and Sisters” (2020), demonstrating her interest in blending movement with multimedia.

Emma has also performed in “I Might Also Disappear for a While” by Zina Vaessen, presented at Roxy Theatre, Basel, and E-Werk, Freiburg. Her earlier work includes performances in “The Story of the Soldier/Renard” by Giulia Giammona at TanzQuartier Salzburg (2022), and in Yorgos Sapountzis' video installation “Sculptures Can Not Eat,” shown at the Venice Biennale (2017).

Her training includes working with renowned mentors like Claire Vivianne Sobottke, Thomas Hauert, Kirstie Simson, Manuel Ronda, Meg Stuart and many more. She also completed Hata Yoga teacher training in 2021, adding to her holistic approach to movement.

Emma’s work includes dance, performance, theater, and video art, reflecting her passion for pushing boundaries and exploring new forms of expression.
