Fractuder Recollection
2023
Fractured Recollection is a dance performance not far from a black comedy created in 2023. It represents the ambiguous character of memories and the anomaly of remembrance. Thus, the choreography, music, and stage design originate exclusively from the recollections of the choreographer and performer .
“Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don't know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It's that terrible precision that we hate so much. But because we don't know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.”
― Paul Bowles, The Sheltering Sky
Sometimes we can recall the smallest detail of past events, like smells, colors, textures, sounds, flavors, and emotions. We can reveal a specific memory in our head, to experience again a moment that has passed. That might evoke a nostalgic retrospection and bring us on a journey through our unconscious desires. Another factor that may contribute to the reach for memories, is to remind ourselves that the life that we are living is not as monotonous and meaningless as it seems to be. Memories are an indispensable element of our existence, that are often disregarded in the rush of our everyday life; a life which is based on constant production and consumption, where there are not many moments for reflection and time passes between fingers like sand.
Apparently, memories create sort of a private library of past happenings that are always accessible unless the brain starts to get weaker.
