Lísandra Týra Jóns
Lísandra Týra Jóns is an Icelandic dancer and interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin and one of the co-founders of the dance company DISTANT CASUALS. She completed her education at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) 2019 - 2023 and studied at NYU Tisch School of the Arts in New York as an exchange student in 2022, following earlier training at Klassíski Listdansskólinn and FWD Youth Company in Iceland.

Lísandra was an artist-in-residence at Tanzbuero SZENE Salzburg in 2023, where she also served as rehearsal director for Eduardo Torroja’s staging of “What the Body Does Not Remember” at SEAD. She has created and performed works such as “Eat What You Get,” a piece developed and performed in 2020 with Hubert Mielke and presented at the Tanečno Dance Festival in Slovakia in 2024. That same year, she presented “DISTANT CASUALS by DISTANT CASUALS” at both the Tanečno Festival and Tanz Tangente in Berlin, as well as collaborated on “figures,” an interdisciplinary project with Heinz Peter Knes, DISTANT CASUALS and Ricardo Domeneck at Stations in Berlin.

Lísandra’s choreographic portfolio is diverse and includes performances like “Hamr” (2023) music and video by Siggi Olafsson alter ego of the artist Berglind Ágústsdóttir, “Morphing on” (2023), “Session I” and “Session II” (2022) both showcased at Josef Eckart Theater, the collaborative production with Claire Pearl and DISTANT CASUALS “Sink Your Teeth Into The Void” (2022), “Morphing, Güldenhof” (2021) among two other members of DISTANT CASUALS and earlier works such as “Lethe” (2019) dance film by Réka Szücs, and “Noted.” (2018) a fusion of choreography, video and painting.

Before studying abroad she worked with artists such as Ingri Fiksdal in “Diorama” at ICE HOT Nordic Dance Platform, David Danzon in “Transhumance” at the Listahátíð Reykjavíkur Festival, Anna Kolfinna Kuran in “All The Sisters In Me” and took part in the video project for the Maersk Tower in 2018 by the Icelandic visual artist Ragnar Kjartansson. For her graduation solo at SEAD in 2023 she was assisted by the film director Philippe Grandrieux to embody and stage his film/performance piece “Meutrière.“

In addition to her live performance work, Lísandra is a video artist and editor. She has been directing and editing her own film projects, as well as trailers and video content for DISTANT CASUALS and other artistic events and institutions. Her works often create the intersection between movement, voice work, visual art, and film/video art.
